Introduction to Pottery
Fall in love with pottery and learn the foundations of working with clay. Our workshops offer a gentle yet immersive introduction to clay, whether you’re drawn to the meditative spin of the wheel or the grounded, sculptural art of hand-building. Immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of the Pencil Ceramic Studio overlooking Lions Head.
Pottery on the Wheel
For those who enjoy rhythmic, symmetrical, and functional pottery-making on the spinning wheel.
In this hands-on course, you’ll learn to shape clay on the pottery wheel—from wedging and centering the clay to throwing functional forms like cups, bowls, and planters. You’ll also learn trimming and glazing techniques to finish your pieces. This 10 hour workshop is spread over 4 sessions (3 sessions on the weekend) and is ideal for beginners or anyone wanting a refresher. You’ll complete and take home four of your favourite pieces. After the course, you’ll have the skills to throw independently and can join our open studio sessions as a member.

Handbuilding & Sculpting
For those who love slow, sculptural, and expressive clay work shaped entirely by hand.
Discover the grounding art of hand-building pottery using ancient, tactile methods like pinching, coiling, and slab-building—no wheel required. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll create your own unique vase while learning how to refine shape, add surface details, and develop your own style. The course runs over 10 hours in 4 sessions and is perfect for those looking to slow down and reconnect with themselves through clay. You’ll leave with a finished, one-of-a-kind piece and the confidence to continue your creative journey. Afterwards, you're welcome to join our studio membership and work independently during open studio hours.
